Religious Freedom

Since when did the definition of religious freedom become "You must agree with my religion"?

In this world of global communication it has become painfully obvious that the world is filled with different cultures and beliefs. None can be proved right - or proved wrong.

We MUST peacefully co-exist. It is our only option.

When Americans stopped going to school and learning about other cultures. Those people home school now in order to minimize their exposure to reality. They make the reality at home for their children and THAT was when ALL religions had to agree with their religion. Otherwise, they were the 'others' where all of this hate speech comes from. Ignorance.

Santorum (always be sure to Google the word!) stated that higher education is not only elitist but steers people away from their learned religious beliefs. While this is not a true cause and effect statement it does have some relevance. People who attend higher education tend to learn that the world is larger than their home town or their resident county. Eyes are opened to the FACT that many different cultures and religious beliefs exist. It naturally follows that they begin to question their own religious beliefs. I believe it is then that most find their true faith - or lack of it. For religious conservatives this is a terrible thing. For those of us who have experienced it - it is the most powerful experience of a lifetime. It has been for me anyway. Questioning my beliefs has brought me so much closer to God and opened my mind to realize there are no known answers. Their never can be. Those who claim to have the answers are not being truthful.

I know Santorum is Catholic, but his tone and attitude seem more Pentecostal. Being raise in a pentecostal church i can tell you from first hand experience, questioning your faith is known as "backsliding" and is akin to sinning. Questioning your faith is dangerous because it's a sign to the devil that you are weak and there are cracks in the foundation. Even studying other religions is frowned upon. I truly feel like i was a member of a cult and brainwashed.

Have you ever heard of the Opus Dei? They are the cult group of Catholics that Dan Brown highlighted in his book the "Da Vinci Code". They are like fundamental Catholics and Santorum does talk a little like those people. But you must laugh instead. Anyone with those religious beliefs would never lower themselves to run for President. They are far more pious than that. The Presidency is beneath their view of scripture and would never go out and try to convince the world that they are worthy of such a 'satan driven' profession.

Honestly, Romney is the only guy out there that would have a chance to beat Obama in November. If Santorum gets the nomination, it will be hard to watch. This country did elect Bush twice and he was just as 'christian' as this Santorum guy.

Michael Moore said last night, OMG, we have 8 months before the election. How will we survive this clown show - or something close to that. bawahhaaaa. I don't know how I will. I'm a political junky.

Cheers.

Thohea - That's how this religiousness - not faith but religiousness - continues from generation to generation. You can't question what you were taught or you are being influenced by the devil. Brainwashing is the only word we could possibly use for that type of forced religion.

Lisa - in all seriousness, I've been watching this political race as if I'm watching a reality show. Typically I don't enjoy reality shows - because they are fake - but this is real reality. It is quite entertaining as long as you realize that President Obama will get re-elected. BUT it turns into a horror show when you consider that Bush was put in office too - so any of these candidates could possibly be our next President. It would be truly frightening if that were to happen. I can't even imagine it.

Denbec, I've been watching in horror actually. From my perspective, it's time traveling back to high school. Well, actually before that because I graduated in '78 and after Nixon was impeached.
Anyway, you have to understand why I feel this way. I am one of those women that had endometriosis and ovary cycles that caused me to be infertile. And even when I was actively trying to get pregnant, they had to put me on birth control pills so that I could function normally. Cried my eyes out when I discovered that I probably would never have children because of my condition. On 3/17/04, I had all of my organs surgically removed because I was afraid the next thing they would find is cancer. So on St. Pat's day I celebrate that I am organ free and cancer free too.

Those defunding Planned Parenthood and denying birth control don't have a freaking clue what it's like to suffer like I did for 19 yrs.

These religious fanatics need to be shut down and told that their religious views are not what is law in this country. I'm going to do everything possible I can to make sure that women retain these rights if it's the last thing I do.

Cheers. Lisa
