Cute graphic.

And yet...during the first six months of Gov. Scott's term, while the national enemployent rate under President Obabma's leadership has remained essentially stationary(down, at most, only about 0.3%),and in the midst of a national and world wide economic slump, the unemployment rate in Florida under Gov, Scott's leadership has begun to steadily decline(down 1.3% already).

Curious.

I predict that by the end of his
1st term, Scott's record of new job creation in Florida will have beat the national average by a significant margin (one which the current President of the United States will only be able to dream about coming even close to matching).

"I think I can"?

I think he can too.

The employment figures for June and July were just posted and they are sadly disappointing. Gov. Scott has killed more jobs than he has created. He is a crooked Tea Party extremist that even some in the Tea Party don't like. We are doomed here in FL.

We have been under GOP in FL for a very long time. You can't blame our 10.6% unemployment rate - far above the national average - on anyone else but the GOP.

I stand by my prediction.

Time will tell, and I might very well be proved to be in error, but I'm not too worried about it.

It's a bet, for sure, but a fairly safe bet.

PS: The bursting of the huge Florida real estate bubble
had a major influence on the unemployment rate ( and the economy overall) in Florada over the last few years. The Democrats had a significant role in that, as they have had in the obscene and unprecedented deficit spending of the last few years:

"Gov. Scott has killed more jobs than he has created."

Can you back up that claim with any actual evidence? You may very well be correct, but I have to wonder whether that claim is based on any reality, or is it just wishfull thinking based on your own personal animosity towards Gov. Scott?

If he has killed more jobs than he has created then shouldn't the unemployment rate have gone up over the last 6 months, rather than down?

The only ways that I could imagine that wouldn't be the case would be if they are playing the same game on the state level that they do on the National level where they no longer count as "unemployed" those workers who have completely given up looking for work .

Or, if there has been a significant decrease in the population of the state over the last six months. That could lower the unemployment RATE, even as the actual number of jobs decrease. (the opposite dynamic has happened in Texas, where, partly because of the strong job creation there, the population has been increasing significantly, so that the unemployment rate can go up, even with the highest job creation numbers in the Nation).

Are you aware if either of those two things have been happening in Florida?

Given that official unemployment rates are subject to such political distortion and manipulation, it would be interesting to see the actual hard numbers of jobs lost, and jobs gained, in Florida over the last six months.

When Gov. Rick Scott took office in January, there were 1.1 million people out of work and actively seeking jobs. In July, that number was 987,000. That means the field of job seekers has decreased by a net of only 12,100 during the first seven months of the year because of new people entering the labor pool.

Last month Rick Scott cut 1200 state jobs from my department alone. Those state job cuts should be reflected in next months data.

Florida’s jobless rate remained unchanged at 10.7 percent in July, same as in June, but 0.1 percent higher than the 10.6 percent unemployment rate in May
