Corporations or People

The general election is well underway and the stakes couldn't be higher. There will be lots of "issues" discussed over the next several months in campaign ads, talk shows, and debates. But in this election - there really is only one big decision to be made.

This year we vote for corporations or we vote for people. That is the only choice.

There is no better corporate pawn than Mitt Romney. That is why, even though his own party was not thrilled with him - it was imperative that he was chosen as the nominee. Corporations have a huge stake in this election and ordinary Americans have a tremendous lot to lose should he become president. The Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court has paved the way for this critical moment in time. Let me say that again - critical moment in time. Corporations now have the power to purchase an election - and they very well could this time. They have already purchased their candidate.

I still predict that President Obama will win this election - but I fear for America if he does not. Corporations do not care about America - they only care about profits. Once the corporations have taken control there will be no turning back. Every election after that point will be bought and paid for by corporations and the candidates purchased and placed in office will be nothing more than game pieces on a giant Monopoly game board.

If you really are one of those undecided voters - or if you are voting Republican because you support an issue like guns, abortion, gay rights or some other personal issue - you need to know that none of that matters in this election. There is only one question to be answered: Corporations or People?

If we choose people over corporations - by re-electing President Obama - we may have a chance at overturning Citizens United. Only then will the power remain with the people. Otherwise we will likely never get that opportunity again. Choose wisely.

UPDATE: 6/5/12 Corporations just purchased another election - the recall elections in Wisconsin. It would be nice to imagine that Gov. Walker really is the people's choice but the imbalance in spending is hard to ignore. The Democratic opponent supporters spent 17.9 million - Gov walker supporters spent $63 million! More important is that the bulk of that $63 million came from OUTSIDE the state of Wisconsin. That is quite terrifying!

Robme is running on the hopes that Republicans have amnesia. Because, if tax breaks created jobs, we wouldn't see an uptick in the unemployment numbers. For over 10 yrs, the Republicans gave the millionaires and billionaires tax breaks (forced on Obama's administration) but they only got richer and the people got poorer.

I was thinking this weekend about my job in the mid-90s. I took a job as a help desk support person (no degree then) and got paid 15 bucks an hr plus excellent benefits, pension, health insurance, dental, vision, and all of the holidays off. I bought a house and lived on that income for a few years quite well. I took vacations etc. About a year ago, a recruiter called me about a help desk position here in Indy. It was full time with no benefits for 10 bucks an hour with the promise of getting hired some day. I was insulted! After all of these years, pay went down for skilled jobs like that?!

The corporations have won. The people have lost. And, unfortunately, the republicans own the message. The left wing needs to get the message out better. We need to rally the troops. We are losing this battle every single day that a skilled labor job goes for less and less pay. Tax cuts do not create jobs. They created a budget deficient and unregulated employment laws have stalled the American dream.
Cheers,
Lisa in Indy

Exactly Lisa! I work in the IT field myself and salaries have been dropping for years. I haven't had an increase in pay in over 6 years - except for the tax break President Obama gave me. I am still working for 20% less than I was 3 years ago and the Bush tax cuts are still in effect. They are lying.

Yep, it's a con game and up until the OWS movement, nobody was complaining. But of course, the OWS movement are just a bunch of lazy hippies and they are passing laws to make it illegal to protest in red-neck cities all over the place.

That's their back-up plan to 'steal power'. Remove union rights, remove your right to protest, make it harder to vote, easier to get arrested, fill up their 'for-profit' prisons and make Obama a one-term President.

We can't let them win.

We have to fight back.

They only call it a class war when we fight back.

I think I'm going to start a new business. I think I can sell photos of my travels for home decor. Need to get incorporated.

Hubby got pink slipped last month. His last day is Dec 31st. We spent all weekend talking about how we are going to spend the next 6 months. We may move to a country with unions, un-barbaric health care systems, and public transportation that can be walked to with jobs that have a work/life balance. Probably have a high tax bill but less homelessness and mental patients left on the street.

Call me unAmerican but the deck is stacked against us. We're fed up. We're leaving.

Thankfully, there's the internet to keep in touch.

We're outta here. The title of your blog sums it up nicely.

The title of the blog was chosen for exactly that reason. Problem is that people are revolting on blogs - like me - and not out in the streets. We need to get off our butts and get noticed - just like OWS. As I said in this article - if the republicans win this election - we may never get the country back because they will make it harder for PEOPLE to affect change. REVOLT!

I would protest but frankly, I don't want to be arrested, put in a van for hours waiting, waiting to be processed and left to pee my pants. Because that's what the police are doing with the arrested protesters. How can we protest when we're treated like animals for voicing our first amendment rights? Oh right, we don't have rights anymore. It's that war on terror thing. Outlawing protestors is just another tool for the conservatives to hold back voters from expressing their constitutional rights.

We're just sheep now.
